Objective:
In a context marked by the persistence, diversification, and public debate surrounding various forms of violence, this Dossier seeks to initiate an academic and political discussion on the specific contributions of feminism and gender studies to their critical analysis within the social sciences and humanities. Rather than viewing violence as isolated or merely describable events, the aim is to bring together works that examine the power relations, institutional frameworks, symbolic orders, and social practices that produce, legitimize, normalize, or challenge them.
Based on the theme “Feminisms and Gender Studies as Tools for Understanding and Dismantling Violence,” this Dossier calls for theoretical and empirical research, as well as critical reviews of the literature, that enable us not only to identify specific forms of violence but also to understand the conditions under which they arise, their differential effects, and the political, analytical, and methodological languages through which they are currently named, analyzed, and questioned. Its relevance lies in the need to strengthen rigorous and situated discussions on an issue that occupies a central place both on the public agenda and in contemporary knowledge production.
Topics:
- Violence in institutional and representative settings: academic, political, workplace, and judicial.
- Violence in intimate relationships and spaces: in romantic and emotional relationships, within families, and in caregiving settings.
- Lethal and hate-motivated violence: femicide, transfemicide, and violence against gender-nonconforming individuals.
- Symbolic, discursive, and cultural dimensions of violence.
