Overweight and obesity in Mexico have shown a progressive increase. These diseases are the most important health system challenge. They can be classified with body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC): the first is the most used and
known, but lack in ability to discriminate between body fat and lean mass. In this study the correlation of body fat percentage (%) with BMI and WC among university students is evaluated, having a low correlation between these parameters. To assess
body composition we must use body fat percentage and leave the BMI as a screening index of body weight.
