The Colloquium of Music Education at a Higher Level at the Department of Music at UAA Five Years after its Funding

The proposed definitions for the term -colloquium- agree that it refers to a meeting that invites people interested in having a discussion on a specific subject. Five years ago, Dr. Raúl Capistrán and the professor Juan Pablo Correa, faculty researchers of the Department of Music, which belongs to the Arts and Culture Department at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, decided to invite to national academics to discuss the different issues that musical education at university faces in our country. This led to the first edition of the National Colloquium on Higher Education in Music (CEMNS), held in the summer of 2014. Two more national emissions followed, and in 2017, the invitation was extended internationally; thus, since then, the letter ‘I’ was included in its acronym. From June 27 to 29, 2018 the Academic Body (CA), UAA-CA-117 “Education and Knowledge of Music” held the fifth edition of CIEMNS. Through this communication, the CA reaffirms its commitment to documenting the recent history of higher music education in Mexico, a project initiated in 2017, which clearly shows a tendency to become a research line. The antecedents, achievements, and challenges derived from this academic gathering are presented.
