The work of Antoni Zabala and Laia Arnau offers a proposal with eleven key ideas that integrate diverse interpretations of the term “competence”. It is an attempt to clarify the notion and implications of this component in education. The authors´ stance on the perspective of competency-based education is clear and evident, as well as the efforts for justifying its implementation in teaching. A clear intention of arguing that the concept “competencies” can be a notably effective way of extending pedagogical principles stands out as well, assuming that the formation in competencies is renovating, and that throughout the eleven key ideas, reasons and justifications that should be adopted in education are offered.
