Patient safety culture and academic level in nursing in a public hospital

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: The perception of patient safety culture is related to attitudes and values assumed by health personnel in their practice so that the patient does not experience harm associated with health care. Linking the degree of development achieved by a scientific field makes it possible to explore in detail the impact on the quality of care provided in health institutions. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between patient safety culture in nursing and the academic level in inpatient services in a public hospital. Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional, correlative, descriptive, prospective, prospective study in a public hospital in the city of Aguascalientes. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) survey, validated as a patient safety questionnaire in Spanish version by Hospital Survey in Patient Safety, was applied under informed consent, using the statistical package MedCalc® Statistical Software version 22.007, obtaining descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Strengths were obtained in 29.61% of the sample studied and the rest were opportunities for improvement. It is mentioned that “Section E:” is the only one with strength since it obtained 91.15% of positive responses. Conclusion: The results show that patient safety culture is not fully related to the academic level of nursing, although there is a significant connection in some sections of the instrument.
