Abstract

At the end of the nineteenth century, the instruction of women was a relevant topic for the public opinion. The local newspaper El Instructor published scientific information for women audiences with the purpose of creating an encouraging environment at home where children would develop love for science. Therefore, for El Instructor education for women was an ongoing subject, as well as articles dedicated to female audience. It is possible to identify the women prototype of that time: wife and mother whose social duty was to educate her children from a scientific approach. In this way, El Instructor had a social role: women education and training through scientific propaganda. The article aims to present the type of information dedicated to women, which reinforced their role as housewives in this newspaper.
