Abstract

In this article, the workplace conditions and the academic situation of women professors from the “Benito Juárez” Autonomous University of Oaxaca (uabjo) are analyzed. Firstly, data concerning the origins of uabjo are presented; then comes a brief theoretical reflection on university women. Next up is the core of this paper: an analysis on the academics and the working conditions for this sector. Data here presented come from polling a representative sample of uabjo professors in 2002. In this paper we seek to find out the social origins of male and female professors from this university and their development insofar as academics. In the case of women professors, this poll has allowed us to determine to which university departments they are ascribed and what the conditions under which they perform their duties are.
