Abstract

It requires an open and interdisciplinary perspective to understand the city. This article explains that it is essential to incorporate the experience of those living in cities, because these can’t be understood without taking into account the subjects who live and communicate in them. The city as an object of study must be assumed by a communicative approach as well as a sociological, anthropological and urban. Although the question about cities isn’t new in the communication field, this concern requires today a wider view that won’t reduce the city to a mere background in the study of communicative practices. The following text presents an overview of some of the features of the city, as a social space, experience, diversity, and finally as a communication system.
