Listening Practices and Associated Worlds in the Work Sideral by Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza

Abstract

This paper analyzes Sideral, an artistic project by Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza, which consists of the sonification of various meteorites to create listening devices based on their electromagnetic fields. In dialogue with Jakob Von Uexküll's concept of Umwelt, it explores the conditions of possibility for a situated listening that emerges from the encounter between heterogeneous sensitive worlds. Rather than translating data, Sideral proposes a speculative sound ecology, where the inhuman is inscribed in affective, cultural, and material networks that challenge any linear or totalizing representation.
