Abstract

This paper presents a methodology specific to the artistic field, where traditional scientific research merges with artistic creation, called “research-creation”. In this epistemological approach, the results that emerged from a traditional research process became the basis for artistic creation. In the present paper, based on linguistic research, where several system-specific terms related to capitalism were semantically analyzed, such research served as the basis of a critical analysis of discourse, in which we explored the discourse of capitalism and how this is articulated in society. From such research, a conceptual visual artwork was created, in which the analyzed terms are recalled. Therefore, the present paper offers a critical position towards capitalism and its subsequent application in artistic creation, where the critical stance is maintained, but materialized through artistic work.

Author Biographies

Blanca Elena Sanz Martin, Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes

Blanca Elena Sanz Martin was graduated of the Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Languages and Literatures, the Master’s degree in Hispanic Linguistics, and the PhD in Linguistics, all awarded with honors by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Since 2009, she has been a professor-researcher at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, where she currently works. She currently holds Level I in the National System of Researchers (SNI), which she joined in 2010. As a researcher, her areas of interest include Spanish semantics and syntax, both from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. She has also been a member of the editorial committee of Anuario de Letras, a significant journal in the field of linguistics. She is currently Dean of the Center for the Arts and Culture at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, where she has also served as Research Secretary and Head of the Department of Letters.

Isidro Martínez Bueno, Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes

Isidro Martínez Bueno (León, Guanajuato, 1985) is a visual artist, researcher, and co-founder of IMA Casa Estudio. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Guanajuato and a Master’s degree in Art from the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. His research focuses on the study of orientational metaphor as a device of power within the discursive logics of capitalism and its role in regulating social discourse. His practice brings together artistic production, research, and teaching, exploring object art, printmaking, and written language as critical strategies. He has presented papers at national colloquia and conferences on art, visual culture, linguistics, and digital media, consolidating an investigatory-creative profile focused on the relationships between written language, image, and power.
