Active learning as a teaching strategy seeks to achieve the student's commitment to their learning and that this, in turn, is generated or/and enriched through the collaboration of their classmates. In it, individual reflection, critical thinking and direct action to solve problems are encouraged; Likewise, it generates in the teacher the need for his or her class planning to be creative and innovative.
Despite the importance of digital tools for the application of active learning methods as expressed (González Sotelo et al. 2021), these are not a requirement for their application. There are various use cases in classrooms where such methods can be used with traditional tools, such as notebooks, poster boards, cards and whiteboards. In addition to the curricular learning objectives, there are also “soft” skills that are desirable to develop, such as communication, teamwork and leadership skills (Walsh-Portillo 2011), which the instructor can use for this purpose.
The following lines narrate the methods used by teachers during the implementation of the Smart nurse methodology, addressing questions such as: When was it applied? What active methods were applied? What was the context?
