Abstract
Introduction: Alcohol consumption is a public health problem that negatively impacts people's biopsychosocial well-being and can favor the appearance of different forms of aggressiveness. Objective: To correlate alcohol consumption and aggressiveness in undergraduate nursing students. Materials and methods: A quantitative correlational, cross-sectional, non-experimental study was carried out. 294 nursing students from the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes participated in the study, and the Audit (2001) and the aggression questionnaire (AQ) of Buss and Perry (1992) were applied. Results: Female sex predominated with 79.9%, 100% of the sample had consumed alcohol at some time in their lives. Regarding the frequency of alcohol consumption, 80.3% had low alcohol consumption, 16.0% medium risk, 2.4% high risk and 1.4% alcohol dependence. In general aggressiveness a mean (M=72.04) was obtained, of the types of aggressiveness hostility was the most frequent (M=21.25). Hostility was positively and significantly related to high risk consumption (rs = .474, p=.030) and anger with alcohol dependence (rs = .816, p=.000). Conclusion: Students with high-risk drinking and alcohol-dependent drinking have higher aggressiveness in hostility and anger, respectively.
