Abstract

To date, metformin is the oral hypoglycemic agent par excellence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), either in monotherapy or in combined therapies with other drugs. However, there are other families of drugs that help regulate blood glucose levels, such as the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors that have shown promising results in the control of patients with this disease.
