Mucormycosis is an aggressive fungal disease that causes infections that can potentially cause
death. It has become an emerging disease due to the increase in immunosuppressed
population, better diagnostic tests, and possibly to the use of broad-spectrum antifungals,
among other factors. It is characterized by the rapid development of tissue necrosis, the result
of vascular invasion and subsequent thrombosis. The forms of presentation are rhino-orbital-
cerebral (66%), pulmonary (16%), cutaneous, gastrointestinal (10%), or disseminated. We
present the case of a 47-year-old woman with mucormycosis, without a history of chronic
diseases, or immunocompromise, who had an in-hospital diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
