Abstract

Amebic liver abscess is a disease that affects 5 million people in the world and 8.4% of
the Mexican population. It is an enzymatic necrosis of hepatocytes and multiple microabscesses
that converge, usually forming a single cavity with a homogeneous liquid content. This can be
complicated by a break into the cavities of the peritoneum or thorax. The case of a 13-year-old
male patient is presented, which began with nonspecific symptoms like fever and abdominal
pain and progressed until having characteristic symptoms of amoebic liver abscess. It is worth to
mention that this disease is very rare in pediatric patients. This article details this disease from
the pathophysiology to the treatment, so that it can be checked against the patient. LUX
