Abstract

Determinism is the position that holds that everything that happens in the world is previously predetermined. This is intrinsically related not only to religious and metaphysical ideas, but also to scientific ideas mainly in physics. Such a point of view has been highly criticized by the position called indeterminism. In this paper we will briefly examine what determinism and indeterminism are, emphasizing scientific indeterminism and looking for its relation with Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which appears in quantum mechanics.
