Abstract

This article is derived from the research "lnteraction between families and television. A case study in Aguascalientes", and its objective is to produce a list of the different meanings that television has for audiences. It shows how family groups; accordingly wi th their values and aspirations, assign certain functions and possibilities to television, which is understood as an entity that propases meanings that are negotiated by the family. Therefore, this article intends to answer the question: To the family, what is television?, and in this way reflect on the significance that television, the hated and loved institution has.
