Abstract

The article intends to elaborate a critical review of the trajectory of the Guatemalan historiography, with the purpose of promoting to the interior of the national community of historians, an attitude of openness to the development that the historical investigation has experienced in the XX century., This effort It is the one that makes it possible for historical research in Guatemala to finally overcome the influence of the liberal historiographical tradition, the anecdotal political history and the use of history as an instrument of political adhesion, thus subtracting its broad explanatory potential.
