Abstract

The essay presents an interpretation of the history of Mexico, focusing on issues that may contribute to explain contemporary Mexico vis-a-vis a democratic horizon; The analysis will be based on the theoretical elements that establish a relationship between sovereignty, citizen rights and nationalism. The text is divided into four sections. In the first, a brief discussion of the theoretical elements that will serve as the basis for the interpretation of Mexican history. The second part  reference is made to three periods, which represent important breakthrough in the consolidation of contemporary Mexico: it was revolutionary. At the end, a recapitulation of the general conclusions that derive from the interpretation of the history of Mexico is made.
