Abstract

This paper gives a detailed account of the forms, circumstances and role of agricultural credit in Aguascalientes during the fifty years prior to the Mexican Revolution. It addresses the role of credit and private credit banking, given the inadequacies of government and church and the absence of credit institutions. The great differences in access to credit between large and small owners are highlighted. Finally, the arrival and impact of the expansion of the national banking system are addressed.
