Raquel Mercado Salas' first book is a document that emerged from a doctoral work on the concept of irony from a philosophical perspective applied to the study of the arts. In an effort of broad integration, the author reviews from the first configurations of irony in the history of thought, passing through its moments of prestige and disrepute as a philosophical resource until reaching the work of Gilles Deleuze, from which the discursive core of the book is integrated. In parallel, the author develops the way in which irony is configured in artistic works, focusing on the case of contemporary Mexican art (Minerva Cuevas, Roberto de la Torre and Leonardo Barrera), which is distinguished by its use of irony and directs its attention to pieces in which the device of the ironic plays a fundamental role in its discursive, symbolic and aesthetic strategy as a commitment to a thought of difference.
