This article seeks to critically analyze how capitalism has influenced homosexual relationships and bonds in the city of Xalapa during the period 1980–2020, understood as a conservative and, at the same time, global city that has transformed the ways in which individuals relate to one another. In this sense, capitalism will be approached through the normative framework of commodification, examined from the perspective of the overexploitation of the individual. Accordingly, the study aims to analyze technological media as market-measuring mechanisms and, in turn, to make use of oral narratives and statistical data in order to understand the lived experiences and subjectivities of individuals mediated by capital.
