This article analyzes the process of institutionalization of the commemoration of April 2, the anniversary of the capture of the city of Puebla in 1867 by Porfirio Diaz, as well as its integration into urban life in Puebla between 1881-1914 as a means of political legitimation. Based on archival documentation, periodical press and a bibliographical review, from the perspective of urban history, the study examines how the commemoration of this date used public space without becoming a holiday as opposed to other celebrations such as 5 May or 15 September.
