Psychological intervention usually works both with observable behaviors and with cognitive processes, among which are the attributions of causality. The attributions of causality are explanations that people make of the results of their actions in everyday life, evaluated as successes or failures and whose assessment has motivational, affective and behavioral effects. These attributions are not frequently made except under specific conditions and in tasks that imply a challenge for the person, which creates a problem for the psychologist: how to identify them? And even more, how to make them evident in the work with children? The objective of this article is to present the use of private speech as a tool to access and evaluate attributions of causality in the intervention with children, since language is the perfect means to stimulate and/or modify cognitive processes.
