Policies and guidelines for the creation and edition of academic journals of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes

The purpose of this document is to establish the institutional editorial policies and guidelines for the publication of academic journals of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. Both the policies and guidelines aim to promote the practice of rigorous editorial processes, under widely accepted academic standards and from the philosophy and principles of Open Access. Within the framework of the dissemination and diffusion of knowledge, a fundamental task of an institution like the UAA, these policies and guidelines are the product of collegial work among the editors of the academic journals of the institution within the framework of the UAA Academic Journals Network (RedRUAA). The process has been supported by the General Direction of Dissemination and Liaison, through the Editorial Department. The proposal is based on the provisions of the General Law of Science and Technology, the General Law of Education and the Organic Law of the National Council of Science and Technology, to instruct Open Access in the Knowledge Society, enacted on May 20, 2014. As part of the institutional framework, both the statutes of the Organic Law and the Development Plan 2016-2024 and the General Guidelines for the Editorial Production of the UAA (2018) have been consulted. In addition, analogous guidelines from institutions such as UNAM and documents such as the Good Practices Guide, by Rojas and Rivera (2011) or the criteria of the UAA (2011) have been reviewed.

The first section of the document presents the mission, vision and values that guide the publication of UAA's academic journals. The second section consists of a series of categories to typify the journals produced by the institution, so that, subsequently, distinctions can be made regarding what is proposed as fundamental or desirable for each type of journal. The third section is dedicated to the project and the process of creating a UAA academic journal, pointing out the basic requirements and procedures for this purpose. The fourth section deals with the editorial process, indicating the possible variants according to the type of journal and the preferences of those responsible for each of them. Finally, the fifth section establishes the development itineraries for each journal based on the fulfillment of the criteria that simultaneously guarantee a rigorous and efficient management as well as the journal's access to indexes and databases, as well as the minimum conditions that, according to its type, must be observed to remain in force in the UAA's academic journal register.
