Abstract

The present work seeks to show the differences and particularities of the Inquisition in the American continent and in the Iberian Peninsula. In this sense, the work analyzes from the historical and political processes, the functioning of the religious order in both continents, likewise the author exposes the origin and the objectives of the same one, important aspect since these changed through the time.    Thus, the text seeks to distinguish between the archaic customs that characterized the medieval Inquisition, its resurgence in the Spanish and the first years of the Mexican Inquisition, and its subsequent softening in the Viceroyalty.
