This paper consists of a historiographic review on how and what has been worked on the role of the Franciscan Order in the construction of a space and a spiritual government in the society of Nueva Galicia. Broadly speaking, the historiographical balance starts from the construction of the neo-Galician space (XVI-XVII century), then on how this sense is reinforced by an institutional network that is woven on it and finally, the cases of Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos and the Virgen de Zapopan; as examples of the definition and spatial/institutional demarcation, along with its manifestations of devotion.
