Abstract

After the division of the Roman Empire, two factions were created: the West and the East (Byzantine). The former usually gets more recognition, however, we seek to give an overview of the Byzantine Empire to understand the similarities and differences with its counterpart, as well as to observe the features that survived from the great Roman Empire. To do so, it is based on three pillars: religion, since it was an era in which everything alluded to it, the military part, where the walls were built to protect the cities, and the cathedral, the palace and the hippodrome, which served for the amusement of the people.
