The aim of this paper is to explore the prehistory of autobiography in Ancient Greece: from the Homeric verses, the Presocratic oblivion of personal consciousness, the Socratic maxim «You must know yourself», to a rereading of Platonic Myth of the Cavern. The author argues that Socrates, with maieutics and irony, is capable to reveal the authentic self.Downloads
