Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present Sociology of the body as a required conceptual framework for general social theory, since it can articulate social realities usually neglected in general Sociology. Thus, from the various historial aproaches that gave voice to this realities, arises an epistemologycal definition of the human body, that aims to properly size issues as gender, disability, consumerism, ethics, and so on. Here we examine the contributions of authors as Mauss, Foucault, Douglas or Bourdieu, as well as classic and already established paradigms in social theory, and most precisely, symbolic interactionism.
