One of the purposes of irony is to change the original meaningof an expression, making that meaning take new forms,
through which even the laughter can be achieved. For Sor
Juana, laughter and irony are tools to undertake a critique
of the repressive, retrograde and eclectic system which was
lived in her historical context. It is through laughter that manages
to transgress this system and get rid of it. It is laughter,
then, a social criticism, a critique of gender.
