On the occasion of the centenary of Mexico's independence, the work seeks to reflect on the origin of the main patriotic symbols. The study refers to the Spanish conquest, and the cultural and religious transformation that was promoted as part of a project, not only of evangelization, but also of inclusion in which pre-Hispanic and European symbols were taken up again, for the creation of collective archetypes that would give a collective identity to the New Spain. The analysis makes a journey from the Spanish conquest to the arrival of the so-called Mexican nationalism, where the aim was to enlarge the patriotic symbols.
