Abstract

This work starts from the question ‘why urban studies?’ to analyze, through a historiographical review, some of the proposals outlined since the middle of the last century and continued to the present day, about the study of cities and their sociocultural impact, this in order to mediate what is the importance of urban studies today for the historical discipline and reflect on the impact that this line of studies could or should have both in Mexico and in the Latin American historiographical tradition and that of the world.
