This article describes a brief introduction to the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Mexican territory in pre-Hispanic times, and then goes into more detail about the situation of alcohol consumption during the regime of Porfirio Díaz in Aguascalientes, which brought stability to Mexico in several aspects (mainly order and education). Throughout this period, actions were taken to control alcohol intake, since it was believed that this was directly related to crime, especially among lower class people. The police were in charge of controlling this and other aspects of the country's security, although they did infringe on several inappropriate behaviors.
