Abstract

With the use of documentary sources issued by religious authorities (parish priests and bishops), such as sacramental books, pastoral visits and circulars in cordillera letters, the aim is to obtain a wide panorama about the phenomenon of "death and die" within a dynamic "under bell" in the colonial period. We seek to answer the following questions: What are the prices and ways of burying a corpse? What kind of funerary practices are carried out by the natives? Under what cultural parameters do the religious perceive "death" during the 18th century? These questions will be addressed under the spatial framework of the bishopric of Yucatan.
