A feat like few: the apache Rafael’s band in Nueva Vizcaya, 1804-1810

This article is an approach to the case of a band of three Apaches,
commanded by one named Rafael, who committed crimes in Nueva Vizcaya between 1804 and 1810. The objective is to analyze the “strategies” of the group that allowed them to operate for six years, within from the context of the so-called Indian wars. The article contains a presentation of the territory of the band's activities, as well as the background of relations between Spaniards and indigenous people in the north of New Spain. Then, the main source of the case, a Cuaderno histórico detailing the activities of the band is analyzed, and concludes with a final reflection.
