Abstract

Seemingly, soccer and the feminist movement seem like two totally different and distant things. However, if we take a closer look at their history, we will see that they have more in common than they appear. The struggles of women for the recognition of their rights have intersected with sport on more than one occasion.
A review of the first international women's soccer match in 1920 and the first women's soccer World Cups in 1970-1971, allows us to identify changes and continuities in the way in which women's bodies are perceived and, as a last resort, their equality with the men's.
