Discovery of the most abundant river in the world: The Amazon River

Abstract

This article presents the summary of processes that took place to the discovery of the Amazon River, starting with the myths that were thought as truth, the main causes and motivations plus the financing for making that trip, presenting also the main characters of the event like: Francisco de Orellana, Fray Gaspar de Carvajal and Gonzalo Pizarro, among others, for the understanding of the development of the event; the components, troubles and process of the sailing through the river, also the locations that were passed by the explorers, and in the end, the importance of the event as the future integration of the discovery of the South-American land.
