Abstract

After World War II there were many changes at the social level in several countries, one of them was Japan. This paper discusses prostitution in this country before and after the war. The objective is to analyze the transformation both in practice and in conception, for this, we talk about how society saw these women before the Second World War, the way in which they became the pillars of art and culture generating spaces, including the education they had and the role of the red light districts; subsequently, we show how prostitution is lived in the postwar period.
