Abstract

After the discovery of America, the Spaniards had two objectives: to take the riches of the New World and to evangelize the natives. The latter was not an easy task, as can be seen in the pages that make up this work, where the main problems are shown, which were generally solved through violent means, subordination, art and myths. The encounter between Europeans and Indians led to war conflicts and a clash of worldviews, such as the idea of heaven and hell. Strategies had to be created in order to evangelize, and within them, art played an important role in the transmission of dogma.
