In this essay, three of the poems read during the homage that the family and friends of Jesús F. Contreras dedicated to him shortly after his death are studied in detail; these texts were written by Rubén M. Campos, Juan de Dios Peza and Celedonio Junco de la Vega. The analysis aims to relate the structure and thematic elements of the poems to literary modernism in Mexico and then, based on what has been previously observed, to construct and configure an image of Jesús F. Contreras that relates both to his own biography and to the aforementioned movement.
