Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the method of evangelization of the Franciscan order in New Spain, and to make a comparison of the Franciscan ideal of medieval times with that of New Spain. To explain this, it is necessary to mention what factors influenced the formation of the evangelizing ideology of this mendicant order from its beginnings until the sixteenth century, to then present a brief study of the period of the arrival of the first twelve members of the Order of Friars Minor who arrived in New Spain. Since the Franciscan ideal, from its beginnings, was modified according to the places where the gospel of Christ was preached.
