Abstract

The discovery of the New World brought great changes, one of them was the task of evangelizing the natives, for which Pope Alexander VI granted papal bulls. The first to arrive were the Franciscans, Dominicans, Mercedarians and Augustinians. This article talks about the work of the Franciscans, who were recognized for being a missionary order, humble and with an evangelizing spirit. These missionaries sought to bring the gospel to the population in a way that they could understand it, for this, they translated several biblical passages into the native languages. Another theme is religious architecture, and the monastery of Huejotzingo is taken as an example.
