The paper deals with an explanatory description of an important media: the press, which has been relegated to an inferior role as a source of information in historiography and is therefore commonly neglected or used in a very limited way. Based on the chronological description of the press and its relationship with history, the author proposes a new way of looking at the press and of taking advantage of all that it has to offer as part of a historical discourse; in the same way he presents the prejudices and difficulties that can still be found when elaborating studies on this medium.
