Resignification of the subjective experience of death from Neuroarchitecture in the necropolis

Abstract

Mexican culture is characterized by embracing death as an essential part of life, and this symbolization of the experience takes on cultural meaning, considering it a way of inhabiting the funerary space through introspective meaning. The construction of the experience in the cemetery is cognitively constituted by the walks, in addition to the exogenous response to what is perceived in the visual and architectural environment. Using a phenomenological approach, we understand the experience of walkers in different cemeteries in the city of Puebla from an emotional, perceptual, and sensorial perspective. The aim is resignifying the subjective experience of grief and its emotional impact through a neuroarchitectural perspective of the necropolis. This theoretically supported research emerges as a first approach to questioning the perspective and design of funerary spaces, taking into consideration the cultural value they safeguard and the chronotropic approach they reflect, recognizing the Mexican vision of death and neuroarchitecture as elements that make these spaces contribute to psychological well-being after the loss of a loved one.
