About the Journal
Periodicity
Artificio ®, is a scientific journal published every six months in the form of continuous publication. Artificio publishes two issues a year, one in January-June and the other in August-December.
Approach and scope
Artificio ® (e-ISSN: 2992-7463) is a scientific journal that seeks to build, from a multidisciplinary approach, knowledge about the sciences and methods in the study of Anthropic Environments, understood as the experience, transformation and impact of the relationship between man and the environment, from perspectives such as design, urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, and others. Refereed through the double-blind system and published every six months in the form of continuous publication, Artificio publishes articles in Spanish and English, is edited by the Centro de Ciencias del Diseño and published by the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes.
Its content is aimed at researchers in the same areas and postgraduate students.
Artificio seeks to build from a multidisciplinary approach the knowledge about the sciences and methods in the study of Anthropic Environments, understood as practices, tools and processes from optics such as design, urbanism, architecture and civil engineering, and others.
The focus of Artificio continues to grow and be updated. As background we consider perspectives such as Herbert Simon's Artificial Sciences, crucial for understanding the natural and built environment and the role humans play in its development. In addition, Hanna Arendt's human condition is also necessary to understand homo faber and his ability to develop tools and transform the environment. Therefore, the anthropocene as an emerging field can be an example of new currents emerging from interdisciplinary crossings, linking perspectives such as innovation and sustainability.
The environment, from Artificio's perspective, is conceived in a broader sense, as a set of natural and artificial circumstances as well as political, social, economic and technological phenomena that involve, relate to and affect or are affected by human activities.
Artificio welcomes and publishes articles with preliminary or full research results, scientific posts, book reviews and interviews.
- Articles: Research articles reporting partial or total results from the perspectives of Design, Architecture, Engineering and Urbanism, with a minimum length of 4,000 words and a maximum of 8,000 words.
- Scientific poster: Posters presented at research congresses in which partial or total results of the research are reported. Send directly to artificio@edu.uaa.mx in .jpg and a quality of 150 dpi.
- Book review: Critical reviews of publications in English or Spanish, corresponding to the last three years, with a minimum length of 600 words and a maximum of 2,000.
- Interview: Conversations and interviews with personalities from the fields of Design, Architecture, Engineering and Urban Planning, highlighting the most relevant aspects, with a minimum length of 600 words and a maximum of 2,000 words.
Peer review process
Artificio receives and publishes articles with preliminary or full research results, book reviews and interviews.
Manuscripts received will be subject to a preliminary evaluation by the members of the Scientific Committee. Once the relevance of the article to the journal has been determined, the manuscript is sent to a pair of external reviewers; the papers are submitted anonymously and the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers either (double blind).
The author can make a suggestion to the editor about possible reviewers of international quality.
If the paper is accepted, the group of authors will have to authorise the statement of Assignment of Rights.
Manuscripts published in this journal are the sole responsibility of the authors.
This journal does NOT charge any article processing charges (APCs), style correction fees, or publication fees
Ethical Commitment
Artificio journal follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors ( COPE). We are committed to maintaining high ethical standards in all aspects of our editorial process, ensuring transparency, research integrity, and respect for academic freedom. This commitment seeks to ensure quality and ethical rigour in every publication we share with our academic community.
Open access policy
Artificio Journal provides open access to its content, based on the principle that offering free access to research helps to increase the global exchange of knowledge. Artificio does not and will not charge any subscription fees to its readers, nor to authors for submitting, processing or publishing their articles.
Copyright policy
If accepted, the authors grant Artificio the ownership of their copyrights, so that their article and materials may be reproduced, published, edited, published, posted, communicated and transmitted publicly in any form or medium and their public communication, exclusively for scientific and non-profit purposes.
As a condition of publication, the authors agree to release their copyright under a shared licence, specifically the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence.
This licence allows anyone to share, copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format under the following terms:
*Credit the author of the text
*Do not use the material for commercial purposes
*Do not transform or modify the material.
Plagiarism check
All articles received will be subjected to plagiarism detection using the iThenticate tool. In case of overlaps of more than 25%, articles will be rejected without peer review. Reports of iThenticate results will be shared with authors in all cases.
Indexing and databases
It is indexed in the Latindex 2.0 catalog and is part of ARLA and LATINREV.
Interoperability protocols
This digital journal, being hosted and published from the Open Journal System (OJS), implements the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), a harvesting protocol for metadata exchange based on the Dublin Core schema.
This can be checked using the OAI-MPH Validator (https://validator.oaipmh.com/), using the following URL:
OAI-PMH URL: https://revistas.uaa.mx/index.php/artificio/oai

Digital Preservation and archiving systems
Actions at the institutional level:
The content hosted on the Open Journal System (OJS) platform of the Artificio journal is digitally preserved on the designated server, in accordance with the processes established by the Editorial Department of the General Directorate of Dissemination and Liaison and the Networks and Telecommunications Department of the General Directorate of Planning and Development of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes (UAA). In general, this process consists of the following:
- Editorial Department, General Directorate of Dissemination and Liaison:
- Frequent maintenance of the site and technical administration of the institutional OJS.
- Version updates.
- Automatic backup every 12 hours, with the possibility of historical access to previous backups; involving:
- OJS configuration files.
- The database.
- Backup log.
- Automated monitoring of backups, tracking storage space.
- Networks and Telecommunications Department, General Directorate of Planning and Development:
- Monthly backup of OJS, with implications similar to the constant backups of the Editorial Department, involving:
- Backup log.
- Automated monitoring of backups, tracking storage space.
Complementary strategies:
Artificio, being published in the Open Journal System (OJS) software of the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), backs up its publications in the archiving systems with which the platform is compatible, such as:
- Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (CLOCKSS): A system that guarantees the secure and permanent digital preservation of publications based on technology developed by Stanford University. It allows participating libraries to archive digital journals and their content by validating caches and restoring them in case of loss or corruption.
- Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS): This is an open source tool created by Stanford University Library that makes it easier for libraries to preserve electronic journals by periodically collecting newly published content. The files are continuously verified with copies stored at other institutions, allowing any damaged or lost information to be restored. (See the Publication Manifesto: https://revistas.uaa.mx/index.php/artificio/gateway/lockss).
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN): Allows publishers using OJS to ensure the digital preservation of their content. In the event that a journal ceases operations or is no longer available online, continuous access to its articles and issues is guaranteed in the long term. To this end, PKP PN uses LOCKSS technology, which offers a distributed and decentralized preservation model supported by multiple institutions.
Likewise, through Crossref services, Artificio supports the metadata of its articles by assigning a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each one, which enables their persistent identification and facilitates their consultation.
Self-archiving is also encouraged by those who contribute to work published in previous issues, so that they can store their articles in personal repositories as an additional strategy for preserving information.
