Abstract

This paper provides a brief, non-technical description of the history, physiology, and impact of apoptosis, and how alterations in this process, whether due to deficiency or excess, contribute to the development of diseases.

My aim is for this to be an introduction that can lead interested readers to a basic understanding of this critical mechanism and, eventually, to expand their knowledge with other texts.
