Abstract

Introduction: Adulthood is the stage where physical and mental development reaches its peak, and the habits formed during this period are crucial for healthy aging. The intake of sugar-sweetened beverages is associated with increased energy intake, which displaces water consumption and contributes to the risk of overweight and obesity, both of which are risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Objective: To promote water consumption and reduce the intake of sugary beverages through a nutritional education intervention in adult males. Methods: The intervention was conducted among biological male adults aged 18-59. The outcomes of the intervention were evaluated through questionnaires and activities. Results: To assess the consumption of sugary beverages and plain water, a questionnaire titled “My Daily Beverage Intake” was applied. Prior to the intervention, 68% of participants consumed water below the WHO recommendations; after the intervention, only 7.7% did not meet these recommendations. Comparing maximum amounts of sugary beverage consumption, 72% of participants reported a maximum intake of 700 mL or less after the intervention, whereas initial intake levels reached up to 2200 mL or more. Conclusion: A positive effect was demonstrated in plain water consumption among adult males.
