Introduction.- Frailty is a condition that can help stratify both risk and prognosis in patients with chronic kidney disease. Low albumin in these same patients are associated with a worsening of frailty, especially in those undergoing renal replacement therapy.
Objective.- To evaluate the asociation between frailty syndrome and albumin in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis.
Materials and methods.- A transversal, observational and analitic study was conducted at General Hospital No. 3 in Jesús María, Aguascalientes, from October to November 2023, in the hemodialysis unit. Twenty patients met the selection criteria. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed.
Results
Of the 20 patients, 65% were women. It was observed that the prevalence of frailty was 35%, while 20% were classified as pre-frail. The final result showed an asociation between frailty syndrome and serum albumin levels.
Conclusions: The FRAIL scale is a useful and easy-to-use tool for identifying frailty in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Furthermore, albumin levels provide a biochemical tool that can even be used to determine frailty screening and thus enable early intervention.
