Studies on artificial intelligence as a graphic design tool: a documentary researc
Keywords:
Graphic design, artificial intelligence, visual communicationAbstract
Graphic design is a discipline that addresses specific communication needs and has evolved over the years in tandem with society, driven by emerging technologies that support its processes. Therefore, stemming from the current advancements in the use and application of artificial intelligence, which has been in continuous evolution for over 50 years, the symbiosis of graphic design and artificial intelligence has emerged. This combination is highly appealing for the automation and generation of functionalities, but at the same time, it raises questions and assesses the systematic and excessive use of applications that might lose sight of the conceptualization and primary function of design from a human perspective. This article presents a literature review considering articles published in Scopus from 2017 with reference to tools and the use of artificial intelligence to generate design projects within four specialized areas: graphic identity design, typographic design, editorial design, and web design. Finally, it provides information about the main areas of design where interactions with artificial intelligence have been taking place, outlines proposals for future research, and discusses ethical implications in this regard.
